How Many Times Can I Give JEE Advanced?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to the Joint Admission Board<\/a> (JAB), a candidate can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your first attempt is counted from the same year you appear for Class 12 board examination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you take a gap year or do not appear in the first year (in which you appear for class 12 board exams), you are left with one chance only, which indirectly highlighting the importance of time management during exams<\/a>\r\n from the very first attempt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Candidates must also qualify for JEE Main in the same year to be eligible for <\/strong>JEE Advanced<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the Basic Eligibility Criteria for JEE Advanced?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apart from the attempt limit, a candidate must meet other major eligibility criteria set by the Joint Admission Board (JAB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Qualifying in JEE Main <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Learners cannot directly register for JEE Advanced, they need to qualify in JEE Main.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Candidates must rank among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (for all the categories) in JEE Main 2026 Paper 1, achieve a minimum of 75% marks (65% for SC\/ST\/PwD) in Class 12th, or be in the top 20 percentile<\/a>\r\n of their board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Minimum age limit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Candidates from general and OBC categories must be born on or after October 1, 2001. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SC, ST, and PwD candidates can get a relaxation of 5 years for appearing in JEE Advanced exams which means they can be born on or after October 1, 1996<\/strong> for the years 2025 and 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The age limit for giving JEE Advanced enables learners to complete their attempts at the right age, and if failed, make mindful decisions while there is time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Subject requirement<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Learners who want to appear for JEE Advanced must have passed their Class 12 board examinations with subjects like Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Early Admissions to IITs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Candidates whose admission to IITs was cancelled after joining are NOT eligible to give JEE Advanced again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from them, the applicants who were allotted a seat already but did NOT accept<\/strong> the seat (by not paying the fee or by withdrawing before the final round) are also ineligible. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why the Class 12 First Appearance Matters?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Learners often get confused by the Class 12 First Appearance rule. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This simply means that if you have to appear for an improvement exam or you are going to drop a year, your first year would still count from the year you first appeared in class 12 board exams<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hence, a learner cannot extend their eligibility by repeating the Class 12 examination.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
