Are you one of those who are finding it difficult to figure out the difference between CIE and Edexcel? 

CIE (Cambridge International Examinations) and Edexcel (Pearson Edexcel) are the British boards conducting international education . Both the boards have international and standardised opinions. 

A student after completing their schooling from CIE students can get studies further in Harvard, Stanford, and other Ivy League schools , Oxford, and Cambridge. Both the boards are popular in India. 

Students take admissions in these boards, but which amongst the two is better? Both of the boards rarely have the same syllabus , patterns, and structures for CIE and Edexcel, but are based on equal education standards all across the globe.

What is CIE?

CIE programmes, named Cambridge International Examinations, is the international programme of the University of Cambridge. At present, CIE is known as Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE). 

Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) trains learners to international levels and offers each of five stage levels of education between students of ages 3 to 19. 

All the levels that are included under these stages are built on a formal level. CIE also helps the learners in developing their knowledge, understanding and skills

CIE

Edexcel

This is a very important point to be noticed as this could be sometimes challenging for schools with limited financial support and students to pay due to the overall costs of the ongoing support and resources provided by Cambridge.

Edexcel

It is usually cheaper; meaning it has lower costs of registration and examination administration. It is a highly opted choice among schools and students who cannot afford to appear for expensive standardised exams, particularly in most of the developing countries.

CIE

The CIE has an objective of providing education in a fair and consistent manner. They provide the essential knowledge and learning opportunities so that the students can equally benefit with a thorough and balanced perspective of the whole study.

Edexcel

The Edexcel curriculum has a linear specification. This means that, when a student takes a course, all the work is covered in the examination at the end of the course. The students are taught the course in an arranged, systematic manner under proper guidance.

5. Syllabus

CIE

The syllabus that CIE provides is vast, each topic in every subject is large and complex. It tests primarily the depth of understanding of the student. The questions are a combination of different types, designed to test a student’s understanding, application, and evaluation.

Edexcel

The syllabus of Edexcel is covers various subjects such as Science, Mathematics, Languages, Arts and so on. Edexcel requires a detailed understanding of topics to achieve good marks in exams

CIE

CIE is difficult in comparison to Edexcel as it focuses on critical thinking , problem-solving and application-type questions. As, students need to analyse the material, and evaluate the study material as per the structured method. 

Edexcel

Edexcel is simple in comparison to CIE, as the exam questions are more generalised. A student can be asked to recall material through rote learning in this method.

CIE

It is very popular and follows a student-centred learning method. They are taught to require and seek to ask questions when they can’t get a grip. This makes it highly interactive among students.

Edexcel

The teaching procedure , which is implemented in Edexcel, is described to be a tip of the older format. As they expect students to be taught by lectures, by giving or teaching, essentially, teaching the chapters that are in the subject.

CIE

CIE provides various types of examinations to test a student, usually a traditional written exam. Some aspects include project work and also a practical element with many experimental studies based on the subject.

Edexcel

While they run a modular type of test where learners are literally tested after each unit, they also permit learners to retake due to the particular modules and give many chances also to their learners to achieve an upper mark.
