The Upper Secondary programme builds on the foundations developed during British Lower Secondary education; however, learners are not required to complete British Lower Secondary before entering this stage. The Cambridge IGCSE qualification is widely accepted by leading universities and employers worldwide as evidence of academic ability. The programme is typically designed for learners aged 14 to 16 years, corresponding to Year 1 and Year 2 of IGCSE.

Cambridge Upper Secondary at 21K School

At 21K School, the Upper Secondary programme is offered exclusively through the Cambridge IGCSE pathway. The programme is available to both full-time and part-time learners, providing flexibility while maintaining strong academic rigour.

Learners are required to study a minimum of 5 subjects to qualify for the Cambridge IGCSE. However, the school strongly recommends that learners opt for 7 subjects, as this ensures a balanced subject combination and keeps future academic and career pathways open. Learners can choose from 27 subjects offered by the school, allowing them to personalise their learning journey based on interests, strengths, and aspirations.

While a small number of universities worldwide may consider IGCSE grades as part of their undergraduate entry requirements, most universities primarily consider AS and A Level results for admissions. A broad and well-planned subject combination at the IGCSE stage supports smoother progression to Advanced Levels. We follow Cambridge University Press course books and workbooks.

We may add or remove subjects from our programme offering due to changes by Cambridge International and learner interest.

Learners studying with another school or as private candidates may opt to study one or more subjects online through 21K School. This broadens opportunities for learners to demonstrate their learning, particularly for university undergraduate programmes. A more comprehensive choice of subjects at the IGCSE level will help learners select the right combination of Advanced Level subjects. By taking advantage of this option, learners will be able to obtain the necessary academic qualifications while still being able to attend classes at their regular school. Additionally, this will provide an opportunity for those unable to sit for the IGCSE examinations due to illness or other reasons.

The ability to study selected IGCSE subjects online also opens up opportunities for retaking examinations if a Learner needs to improve their score to meet University admission requirements. In addition, it allows Learners to complete their courses earlier than the traditional school calendar if they are ahead in their learning. All these reasons make 21K School an attractive option for learners who want more control over their educational destiny.

Important Note:

  1. A minimum cohort of 10 learners is required to offer a subject. If enrolment falls below this number, learners may be asked to opt for an alternative subject
  2. Learners may be advised to change subjects within the first term of Year 1 based on academic performance and the recommendation of the Principal.
  3. Examination series availability (March, June, November) is subject to Cambridge International schedules, and not all subjects are offered in every series.
  4. 21K School enrols learners at AS Level, with the option to extend subjects to A Level in Year 2.
  5. The school follows Cambridge University Press and Cambridge-endorsed coursebooks for all subjects.
  6. Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel are pen-and-paper based examination boards. All board examinations are conducted offline at a physical examination centre. Learners are required to appear for examinations in person and cannot take board examinations online.
  7. Examination centres are available globally. Learners may register at approved examination centres across the world, either through the school (if the school is a registered centre) or as private candidates at authorised centres.
  8. Board registration and examination fees are mandatory and payable to the examination centre. A board registration fee is applicable at the time of registering for board examinations and must be paid directly to the centre where the learner registers. Examination fees are determined by the board and are subject to revision every year.
  9. School fees and board fees are separate. The school fee is payable to the school for academic facilitation, teaching, and learning support. Board registration and examination fees are not included in the school fee and must be paid separately to the examination centre.
  10. Board examinations are conducted at key academic stages:
    • Cambridge IGCSE: Board examinations are taken at the end of Year 2 of the IGCSE programme.
    • Cambridge International AS Level: Examinations are typically taken after one year of study.
    • Cambridge International A Level: Examinations are taken at the end of the full A Level programme, either through staged or linear assessment pathways, as applicable.
  11. Textbooks and learning resources are not provided by the school. The school will share the recommended book list aligned with Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel specifications. Learners/parents are responsible for purchasing the required textbooks, either in physical or digital format, from authorised sellers. The school does not provide soft copies or hard copies of textbooks.

  1. Choose 5–7 subjects for IGCSE and 3–6 subjects for AS & A Levels.
  2. English is mandatory at IGCSE (First, Second, or Additional Language).
  3. Mathematics is strongly recommended. If opting out, email the Principal.
  4. ICT and Computer Science cannot be taken together — choose one.
  5. Combined Science cannot be taken with individual sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology).
  6. At IGCSE, we follow the Alternative to Practical option. At AS Level, practical work is mandatory for Science subjects.
  7. English Language (9093) and English General Paper (8021) cannot be opted together.
  8. English Language and English General Paper are qualifications offered only up to AS Level.
  9. Both subjects are taught and registered for the board examination at the A Level stage only.
  10. Learners may be asked to change subjects within the first term of Year 1 based on performance and the Principal’s recommendation.
  11. Art & Design is not available for private candidates.
  12. AS Level Cambridge Science subjects require practical training, which learners must arrange at a nearby Cambridge physical school. There are no practicals in Pearson Edexcel in AS & A Level.

Indicative Guided Learning Hours

About 130* hours per Cambridge IGCSE subject, before taking the assessment.

* Includes teaching time and directed study. Does not include the independent study the learner is expected to carry out. We recommend that learners undertake independent study outside of normal timetabled lessons for Cambridge IGCSE subjects.

In the two-year IGCSE programme, learners study from a range of 27 subjects offered by 21K School that broaden their understanding and deepen their learning through varied methodologies. Learners are encouraged to collaborate and use appropriate technology to enrich their learning and enhance their understanding of local, national, and global issues. Experiences within and outside the classroom make learners problem solvers and mindful learners. As a collection of practices and principles, Cambridge International describes this as ‘active learning’.

Our Facilitators employ a variety of teaching strategies in the classroom. This will typically include carefully-designed individual learning activities, group work and whole-class instruction. The critical element is the quality of learner engagement and the opportunities provided for feedback between the learner and facilitator to guide the next learning steps. Whole class instruction is a highly effective instructional approach as it includes discussion and learners have the opportunity to respond and contribute. We expect all learners to come prepared to the class for active learning.

Our Facilitators apply assessment practices using an AI-based personalised learning platform that regularly informs them whether learners are reaching their objectives. These personalised assessments also allow learners to understand where they are on their learning journey and how they can improve.

Each academic year is divided into two terms, during which learner understanding is assessed through formative and summative assessments. The two years of the IGCSE program at our school strengthen the foundation for our learners to develop their conceptual understanding, critical thinking, collaboration and communication skills. This, in turn, prepares them to smoothly transition into A Levels, IB Diploma or other pre-university programs and sustain their love for learning.

21K School offers learners a variety of experiences to develop their skills and build on their socio-emotional experiences. The Habits of Mind (HOM) embedded into the 21K Academic Practices is a tested, proven curriculum for creating strong learners and educators. Habits of Mind are the attitudes and dispositions that help learners become better thinkers and problem solvers who know what to do when the answers are not immediately apparent. Learners who demonstrate the attributes habitually and skillfully employ a broad range of cognitive and socio-emotional skills (including personality qualities such as resilience, self-motivation and self-regulation) towards effectively managing their performance.

Fields Trips and Excursions allow full-time learners to engage with other children across cities and countries.

Field trips

Field trips provide learners with different ways of viewing the world, communicating with it, successfully introducing new questions and issues of daily life, and finding answers to generate knowledge. In the end, inquiry-based learning teaches the learners a greater understanding of the world they work, communicate, learn, and live. At 21K, field trips also allow learners to socialise and meet peers outside their online classes.

Annual Excursions

At 21K, the annual excursion is primarily an opportunity to consolidate the bond between learners and facilitators. The trip usually provides our learners with experiences outside their daily activities, such as camping with teachers and classmates. Our past experiences have been insightful. We have planned for visits to locations that provide ample opportunities to facilitate learning through engaging activities while consolidating the bond with the community.

Assessment takes place at the end of the course and may include written, oral, coursework and/or ‘alternative to practical’ assessment. There is a choice between core and extended curricula in many subjects, making Cambridge IGCSE suitable for a wide range of abilities. Grades are benchmarked using eight internationally recognised grades, A* to G, which have clear guidelines to explain the standard of achievement for each grade.

Cambridge IGCSE examination sessions are conducted thrice a year, in March (for learners in India only), June and November. Results are issued in May, August and January, respectively. All examinations are pen and paper-based at any of the Associate Centres of Cambridge. Learners are advised to check for the availability of the nearest Associate Centre before enrolling with 21K School. Cambridge provides time-zone variation of papers for its IGCSEs. This ensures that learners who sit examinations before others cannot compromise the security of the examinations while examinations are timetabled at reasonable local times. To check your Zone, please click here.

All UK GCSEs from 2019 will be graded 9-1, whereas IGCSEs are offered as A*-G. Cambridge IGCSE is also available, graded 9–1 in certain subjects and administrative zones – grade 7 is aligned to grade A, and grade 4 is aligned to grade C.

Examination Planning and Academic Calendar

The IGCSE academic year at 21K School begins in April. Learners are prepared and guided to register for the May/June Cambridge Board examination series, aligned with the school’s academic calendar and progression planning.

Learning Flexibility

Learners registering for five or more subjects are considered full-time learners and are generally not registered with any other school. Learners enrolled with another school or appearing as private candidates may opt to study one or more Cambridge IGCSE subjects online through 21K School.

This flexible approach enables learners to strengthen subject combinations, prepare for Advanced Levels, and tailor learning to their individual academic pathways. The online delivery model allows learners to study at their own pace, access expert facilitators, and benefit from a flexible yet structured learning experience.

Length of Study and Number of Subjects

Learners usually study Cambridge IGCSE over one or two years, though a few study IGCSE over three years. At 21K School, Cambridge IGCSE is spread over two years. We do not offer a one-year accelerated IGCSE Programme. Usually, learners often study eight or nine subjects, and occasionally more, over two years. In others, learners study a reduced number of subjects, typically about five or six, over one year. Reducing the Cambridge Upper Secondary programme to one year directly influences the balance of the curriculum, as the curriculum will be narrower for any learner studying fewer subjects. We recommend that you choose the number of subjects based on your career goals and preferred university’s entry requirements. IGCSE qualification is awarded based on individual subjects. Hence, part-time learners will have no difficulty studying a few subjects at 21K School and other subjects pursued through other Cambridge International Schools.

The prerequisite for a job at 21K School is the qualification and a minimum of two years teaching in an international board. The experience ranges between 5 -10 years at the leadership level. While most of the facilitators work full-time with 21K School, there may be a few subject experts who teach part-time. Regular guest lectures and workshops from professionals are also part of the academic delivery of content.

Crew members receive in-house training at various levels throughout the year. Apart from in-house training, they attend training conducted by Cambridge International. The facilitators receive much exposure to webinars, podcasts and conferences conducted online globally. Global trends are shared through blogs, vlogs and resource persons who share their experiences with our team. A select team enrols in various certification programs as part of professional development. All Facilitators are trained in aspects of child safety, cyber security and cultural sensitivity.

1. What is the process for getting an equivalence certificate?

You can apply to the University Grants Commission online at https://equivalence.ugc.ac.in/. Most Indian institutions, including Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), do not require an equivalence certificate if you have taken exams in India.

2. Can an equivalence certificate confirm my admission to any university?

No. An equivalence certificate confirms that your Cambridge International A Level qualification is equivalent to the 10+2 qualification from any Indian exam board. Equivalence is not necessarily sufficient to meet eligibility requirements for specific courses and at different institutions. Institutions are free to set separate eligibility conditions that are over and above equivalence requirements.

3. A university requires an eligibility certificate to confirm my admission offer. How can I get an eligibility certificate?

Most Indian universities have an eligibility department that issues certificates to students migrating from other boards. Please contact the admitting university directly. Some state-funded universities may require you to apply for an eligibility certificate from the state's higher secondary or pre-university exam board.

4. Is Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language accepted in India?

Yes. Cambridge IGCSE First Language English, Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language and Cambridge O Level English Language are accepted in India.

5. How do I convert Cambridge IGCSE grades to marks?

If you took Cambridge IGCSEs in India in November 2010 or later, your statement of results will include percentage uniform marks. These can be used for admission purposes. If your statement of results has percentage uniform marks alongside your grades, you will not need to convert your grades to marks. Otherwise, use Appendix 1 to convert your grades.

6. I need a school transfer certificate for admission to a school affiliated to an Indian exam board. I have studied up to Standard 8 in a Cambridge school and am seeking admission to the next standard. Who should I contact about this?

You should contact your Cambridge school.

7. What is the process to get a school transfer certificate verified by the local district education office? I am applying to a school in the UAE and the consulate requires this verification.

Please contact your school in India. They should contact the local district education office and provide the necessary school records for the verification.

8. I took Cambridge IGCSEs and now wish to move to a school that follows a national curriculum. What supporting documents should be provided to the admitting school?

All Indian exam boards have their own byelaws for admission. Please refer to the website of the exam board that you wish to join. In addition to your Cambridge IGCSE statement of results, certificate and migration certificate, your school should provide a school leaving certificate that certifies the duration of your schooling. You may also provide a copy of Appendix 2.

9. Do Indian schools following a local curriculum consider Cambridge IGCSE Physics, Chemistry and Biology as a single subject?

The three separate sciences offered at Cambridge IGCSE are treated as three valid subjects. Coordinated Science is accepted as two valid subjects.

10. Will Cambridge IGCSE Grades F and G be accepted for admission to Standard 11 of any Indian exam board?

If you have Grades F and G, you will need to refer to the percentage uniform marks achieved in five Cambridge IGCSE subjects including English Language. Where the admitting exam board has pass marks at 33 out of 100 in each subject, percentage uniform marks below these will not be accepted. You should check the pass marks of the admitting exam board.

11. The statement of results for a Cambridge IGCSE does not mention the word 'Pass', and Cambridge does not issue a separate Pass certificate. However, Indian institutions want to see the word 'Pass' or 'Promoted' on the certificate. What document can I provide?

Cambridge IGCSE is a subject-based qualification. The certificate refers to passing grades that are 'awarded' in each subject. The statement of results mentions 'Ungraded' against a subject if the minimum grade has not been achieved. The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) recognises passes in five Cambridge IGCSE / Cambridge O Level subjects including English Language as equivalent to Standard 10. Cambridge IGCSE has passing grades from A* to G. You may provide a copy of Appendix 2.

12. I need to enter my aggregate percentage for Cambridge IGCSE in the form for junior college admission. How do I find out my aggregate percentage?

Your statement of results will include a percentage uniform mark next to the grade for each Cambridge IGCSE subject. For Indian institutions, you need to add up each percentage uniform mark and divide it by the total number of subjects to get an aggregate percentage.

13. Do Indian universities convert Cambridge International AS & A Level grades to marks for admission purposes?

Most Indian universities require marks or percentage scores for undergraduate admissions. In the absence of marks, universities convert grades to percentage uniform marks. As students in India receive percentage uniform marks for each subject, grades do not need to be converted. You can find percentage uniform marks alongside grades on your statement of results.

14. My Cambridge International A Level statement of results mentions grades and not marks. Indian colleges require marks to be added to the application form for undergraduate admission. Can you provide my marks?

If your statement of results does not mention percentage uniform marks, we will not be able to provide these. Before the November 2010 exam series, students in India were only awarded grades, and this is the case in several countries. Use the Cambridge grade conversion guide in Appendix 1 to convert your grades to percentage marks.

15. How do I work out an aggregate percentage for Cambridge International A Level grades? I am applying for undergraduate studies in India and I need to enter aggregate percentages in the application form.

Your statement of results will include percentage uniform marks next to the grade for each Cambridge International AS & A Level subject. For Indian institutions, you need to add up the percentage uniform marks and divide the total by the number of subjects to get an aggregate percentage. For example, if you need an aggregate percentage for Cambridge International A Level Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, add up the percentage uniform marks for these subjects and divide by three. If you took the staged assessment route (AS followed by A2), add up the percentage uniform marks for the A Levels and not the AS Levels.

16. The admissions process for higher studies ends in June every year. If results are published in August, it will be difficult for students to be considered for admission in the same year. How can you help us?

Results for the June exam series are released online in August every year. In previous years students have been considered for admission after the release of exam results as part of the third round of admissions in August, if places are available. The March exam series is offered in India to include the most widely taken Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge International AS & A Level subjects. Students who plan to apply to junior colleges and universities in India should sit their exams in the March series where possible, or the November series, to make sure they receive their results in time to meet admissions deadlines.

17. Are forecast grades the same as predicted grades? I have not received forecast grades.

Yes, forecast grades are referred to as predicted grades in India. Your school issues forecast grades based on the exams you have taken. Please speak to your school about this.

18. A university is not accepting forecast grades for admission purposes. I need my final results to apply. What should I do?

Please check if the university can offer conditional admission based on forecast grades. Universities confirm conditional offers when they receive final results by a specified deadline. Where admission for a course is competitive and is based on cut-off marks, universities are unlikely to make conditional offers.

19. Is Cambridge International AS Level General English accepted as equivalent to the Class 12 English subject of Indian boards?

Yes. All Cambridge International AS Level English syllabuses are accepted as equivalent to the Class 12 English subject of Indian boards, provided students enter for this in Year 12.

20. Can Cambridge issue a provisional certificate for my Cambridge International A Levels based on forecast grades, to allow me to apply to university in June?

We cannot produce a provisional certificate based on the forecast grades issued by your school. Cambridge results are released in January and August, depending on the exam series. In India the results of the March exam series are released in May.

21. I will take two Cambridge IGCSEs in November and three Cambridge IGCSEs in March. An Indian exam board requires all the results in one mark-sheet for admission purposes. Can Cambridge provide this?

We do not offer this service. You will receive a statement of results for the subjects you have entered in a specific exam series, for example March 2026. However, your school can issue a consolidated mark sheet on their official letterhead if this is acceptable. If an institution / exam board requires all subjects to be taken in a single exam series, they will not accept you if you have taken the required number of Cambridge IGCSE subjects in more than one exam series.

22. Does Cambridge issue migration certificates to students? What is the process for getting these?

If your school is located in India, you will automatically receive a migration certificate with your statement of results for Cambridge IGCSEs and Cambridge International AS & A Levels. If your school is located outside India please ask the exams officer at your school to contact info@cambridgeinternational.org, giving your centre number, candidate number and full name. We cannot accept requests for migration certificates directly from students.

23. How can I find out if the university I want to apply to accepts Cambridge International A Levels?

Indian universities accept Cambridge International A Levels to meet entry requirements. Please check the eligibility section on the admissions webpage of the relevant university. Public universities typically mention 'any 10+2 equivalent qualification', while most private universities specifically mention Cambridge International A Level, Cambridge Board, IGCSE board, etc. You can also check recognition policies in our recognition database: http://recognition.cambridgeinternational.org/

24. A university admission form does not list Cambridge Board in the dropdown for Qualifying Exam Board. How can I complete the form?

Where Cambridge is not listed in the dropdown for Qualifying Exam Board / Grade 12 Exam Board, select 'Other Boards' or 'International Boards'.

25. The college I am applying to has said that they cannot consider my application as they do not recognise the Cambridge AICE Diploma. What should I do?

If you have the Cambridge AICE Diploma, you will need to submit your Cambridge International A Level certificate and statement of results as part of your university application. The admissions office will need to confirm that you meet the required number of A Level subjects. The Cambridge AICE Diploma is not separately recognised in India as it may be comprised of Cambridge International AS Levels only, or fewer than two or three Cambridge International A Level subjects.

26. The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) require students to be in the top 20 percentile of the exam board cohort. Or, students must secure at least 75% aggregate marks in Class 12 equivalent board exams to be eligible for admission. Can Cambridge provide information showing the top 20 percentile of students?

The 75% aggregate cut-off figure in Cambridge International A Levels is based on the results documents that students submit to IITs. Cambridge does not publish or provide information on the top 20 percentile of the cohort.

27. Does JEE accept IELTS/TOEFL in lieu of Cambridge International AS Level English for admission purposes? I plan to take IELTS for admission overseas if I do not get through JEE. But I do not want to study for both Cambridge International AS Level English and IELTS.

JEE (Main) requires the study of one language to meet eligibility requirements. You can meet this requirement by studying any Cambridge International A Level language or any Cambridge International AS Level English Language subject. 28. Does NEET-UG accept IELTS/TOEFL scores in lieu of Cambridge International AS Level English for admission purposes?

Students taking NEET-UG are required to pass any AS Level English Language syllabus to meet eligibility requirements, as mandated by the Medical Council of India. We advise you to sit Cambridge International AS Level English in Year 12. The Medical Council of India does not accept IELTS/TOEFL scores in lieu of English language subjects for the study of medicine in India.

29. How do I calculate the aggregate percentage for NEET-UG eligibility?

To calculate the aggregate percentage for NEET eligibility, add up the percentage uniform marks of your Cambridge International A Levels in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Cambridge International AS Level English. If you took the staged assessment route (AS followed by A2), add up the percentage uniform marks of the A Levels and not the AS Levels.

30. A university admission form requires separate marks to be entered for theory and practical. Can Cambridge provide this information?

We do not issue separate results for theory and practical components of science subjects. Performance in the practical component is built into the overall assessment of each science subject. Where the online form does not allow you to proceed further without entering separate marks for theory and practical, enter your percentage uniform mark in a subject under both theory and practical.
