Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Level (IAL)

From here to the world's leading universities

We are an affiliated Pearson Edexcel International School, affiliation number 94883, authorised to offer Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Level (IAL) qualifications in accordance with Pearson's academic and examination regulations.

Pearson is the largest awarding organisation in the UK. Pearson Edexcel offers qualifications that are internationally recognised and closely aligned with the British education system. With over 3.4 million learners studying Pearson qualifications worldwide, Pearson supports more than 6,500 schools, colleges, and employers globally, and marks millions of examination scripts annually. Pearson Edexcel qualifications are regulated by Ofqual (UK).

Pearson Edexcel International qualifications are developed by the same expert subject teams that design the UK-regulated qualifications. This ensures a high level of academic rigour, comparability with UK standards, and alignment with the UK government's intention to raise educational outcomes globally.

Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Levels (IAL)

Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Levels (IAL) are globally recognised qualifications designed for learners aged 16–19 and are accepted by leading universities worldwide. They are available across a wide range of subjects and are benchmarked as comparable to UK AS and A Levels, as confirmed by UK NARIC (now Ecctis), the UK's national agency for international qualifications comparison. Edexcel IAL qualifications form part of iProgress, Pearson Edexcel's complete academic pathway for learners aged 5 to 19 in international schools.

Study Modes

Learners may pursue Edexcel IAL either full-time or part-time.

Full-time learners typically study any three of the following subjects:

Subject Code Subject Name
WPH1 Physics
WBI1 Biology
WCH1 Chemistry
WMA1 Mathematics
WEN01 English Language B

Part-time learners may opt to study one or more subjects while continuing their education at a physical school or registering as a private candidate. Subject offerings may be added or withdrawn based on Pearson Edexcel updates and learner demand.

Important Notes

A minimum cohort of 10 learners is required to offer a subject. If enrolment falls below this number, learners may be requested to consider an alternative subject.

Examination series and subject availability are subject to annual updates from Pearson Edexcel, and not all subjects are available in every examination series.

The school follows Pearson-approved course books and workbooks for all subjects.

Assessment Structure and Examination Series

Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Levels follow a modular assessment structure.

Modular Assessment:

Each subject is divided into units, and learners are assessed at the end of each unit. Unit results can be combined to achieve the full International Advanced Level qualification. This modular structure provides flexibility, allowing learners to take examinations when they are ready and to spread assessments across multiple examination series.

Edexcel IAL examinations are typically offered in January, May/June, and October, subject to Pearson's annual examination timetable and subject availability.

Grading System

Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Levels are graded on the A–E grading scale*, with the final grade awarded based on the combination of unit results.

Science Subjects

For Edexcel International Advanced Level sciences (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology), there is no compulsory hands-on practical examination or practical endorsement. Practical skills are assessed through written examination papers, which evaluate learners' understanding of experimental techniques, practical procedures, data handling, and scientific analysis.

21K School offers learners a variety of experiences to develop their skills and build on their socio-emotional experiences. The Habits of Mind (HOM) embedded into the 21K Academic Practices is a tested, proven curriculum for creating strong learners and educators. Habits of Mind are the attitudes and dispositions that help learners become better thinkers and problem solvers who know what to do when the answers are not immediately apparent. Learners who demonstrate the attributes habitually and skillfully employ a broad range of cognitive and socio-emotional skills (including personality qualities such as resilience, self-motivation and self-regulation) towards effectively managing their performance.

Field trips

Field trips provide learners with different ways of viewing the world, communicating with it, successfully introducing new questions and issues of daily life, and finding answers to generate knowledge. In the end, inquiry-based learning teaches the learners a greater understanding of the world they work, communicate, learn, and live. At 21K, field trips also allow learners to socialise and meet peers outside their online classes.

Annual Excursions

At 21K, the annual excursion is primarily an opportunity to consolidate the bond between learners and facilitators. The trip usually provides our learners with experiences outside their daily activities, such as camping with teachers and classmates. Our past experiences have been insightful. We have planned for visits to locations that provide ample opportunities to facilitate learning through engaging activities while consolidating the bond with the community.

Our vision is to create a joyful learning environment which includes an experiential learning mode which is interactive, inspiring, and stress-free that induces true love for learning and instils in one self-responsibility and commitment towards life. This dream comes to life through the actions of our dynamic team of facilitators who work effortlessly and selflessly. Due to the vibrancy and creativity of our teaching pool, we can put life into teaching-learning sessions.

Facilitators concentrate on the learning process and encourage collaboration and self-learning. The approach stimulates discussions, asks questions to get the group thinking, and enables peer-to-peer communication. They help learners identify different ways of learning that work for them, take responsibility for their learning, and contribute to group sessions.

The Crew, at 21K, are hired based on their qualification, training, and expertise. They comprise members who believe in the vision and mission of the school and have the experience to add value to the organisation.
