Common Questions
Questions parents ask about Grade 2
Everything parents ask before enrolling their child in the mastery year.
What is the focus of learning in Grade 2?
In Grade 2, learners focus on a strong foundation of learning and independence, from shaping reading through short paragraphs to exploring numbers up to 1000 and quick multiplication. Your child at this stage is introduced to science enquiry, a second language, and social-emotional skills.
What should my child be able to read in Grade 2?
After completing Grade 2, a child is able to read short passages or paragraphs. They can read approximately 80 to 90 words per minute. Our facilitator monitors children's tasks in the classroom and guides them if needed.
What mathematics skills are taught in Grade 2?
Practical, visual, and fun learning are included in Grade 2. Addition and subtraction with regrouping, multiplication tables (2–5), basic measurement (length, weight, capacity), time, money, and simple data handling are some basics a child is introduced to become proficient in mathematics.
How do you assess Grade 2 learners?
We assess Grade 2 learners using different approaches which encourage assessments without stress. We use continuous and embedded assessments in the live classes using the hands-on projects, reading checks, and interactive puzzles. At the end of the Grade 2, our learners receive a report card for enrolling into the next Grade.
How quickly will my child catch up if they have learning gaps?
Your child may catch up between a few weeks to a few months, depending on their individual needs. Our facilitators conduct an initial 30-minute assessment to identify the specific gaps and place your child in small catch-up sessions. The progress is reviewed every few weeks and shared to you as well.
