Hardev Sharma and Shrimati Laxmi Devi welcomed Sushma Swaraj into the world in Haryana in February 1952. She was highly involved in student politics all through college. She was well-known for organizing several student demonstrations during the Emergency in India and her involvement in the 1970s Revolution.

Sushma Swaraj, a vigorous opponent of the Emergency, ran in the Haryana state elections as a candidate of the Janata Party. She was in charge of several vital ministries as an MLA and an influential party leader, including Social Welfare, Labor, Employment, Education, Food, and Civil Supplies. She eventually attained one of the most male-dominated positions in India: Minister of External Affairs, from 2014 to 2019.
