Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum age for LKG admission?
A child must have completed 3 years of age on or before the cut-off date (usually 31 March) of the academic year they are being admitted. Most schools follow this guideline strictly.
What is the maximum age allowed for LKG?
There is no universally mandated maximum age, but most schools cap LKG admissions at children who are below 4 years or 4 years 6 months on the cut-off date, to ensure appropriate grade-age alignment.
What is the standard LKG admission cut-off date?
31 March is the most widely recommended standard admission cut-off date. This means the child must be 3 years old on or before 31 March of the year in which they are seeking admission to LKG.
Can I get an age relaxation for LKG admission?
A few schools may offer a relaxation of up to 30 days beyond the cut-off date on a case-by-case basis. However, this is at the school's discretion. Contact the school directly to understand their policy.
What documents prove my child's age?
Common documents accepted include: Birth Certificate (Municipal Corporation / hospital issued), Aadhar card of child, Passport (if available), and an affidavit with notarised proof of birth date. Birth certificates are the primary accepted proof.
Is there a difference between Nursery and LKG age requirements?
Yes. Nursery (Play Group) typically requires the child to be 2.5 to 3 years old. LKG requires a minimum of 3 years completed. UKG then follows at 4 years, and Class 1 at 5–6 years depending on the state.
