Sangita Basu

With over 18 years of experience in teaching Biology and three years of experience in Home Science, I am passionate about creating meaningful, engaging and learner-centred learning experiences that extend well beyond the classroom. My teaching philosophy is rooted in curiosity, creativity, experiential learning and continuous growth, with a strong emphasis on helping learners connect classroom concepts with the world around them. I have designed and implemented comprehensive curricula incorporating inquiry-based learning, Design Thinking and hands-on experiences, and introduced Design Thinking to Grade 9 learners to encourage creative problem-solving and real-world thinking. I strongly believe that education extends beyond textbooks, and I actively encourage learners to explore their interests through science challenges, innovation programmes, competitions, extracurricular activities and creative projects. Alongside teaching, I have been actively involved in organising and coordinating science fests, guest lectures, assemblies and major school events, while also contributing to creative and digital designing for various school initiatives. I have had the opportunity to mentor and engage with learners through individual interactions, face-to-face meetings and offline school events in Bangalore, and continue to contribute to the wider school community following my relocation to Kolkata. I have also been involved in preparing learners for significant occasions such as Investiture Ceremony, Independence Day and Republic Day. Recognised with the Reliance Foundation Teacher Award, I continue to strive towards nurturing learners who are curious, confident, creative and willing to look beyond the classroom, embrace new opportunities and remain open to continuous learning.

I teach because every learner has a unique way of seeing the world, and I love being part of the journey that helps them discover it. For me, teaching is not just about sharing knowledge—it is about sparking curiosity, nurturing confidence and encouraging learners to ask, explore, create and think beyond the obvious.
