21K School Entry Criteria: Age and Records by Grade
The age guide for each grade, the records we review and when a conversation helps

Choosing the right entry point ensures your child settles comfortably into school life and handles academic work with confidence. At 21K School, placement decisions balance age guidelines with prior academic history, subject readiness, and personal learning needs.
This page explains our age reference dates, required academic records by grade, pathway mappings across Indian and British curricula, and guidelines for special admissions circumstances. To accommodate diverse global calendars, 21K School offers four enrolment cohorts each year—starting in April, June, September, and January. Families can choose the start date that best aligns with their schedule.

Documents and academic records by grade
What we review to confirm placement before enrolment.
To confirm academic continuity and complete registration, 21K School reviews prior learning records appropriate to your child’s entry level:

Preschool to Grade 1 (Nursery to KG2 / Years Primary)
Birth certificate or passport to confirm age, along with any previous early-learning progress notes if available.
Grades 2 to 8 (Years 3 to 9)
Report cards or progress reports from the last completed academic year, a transfer certificate or conduct letter from the prior school, and a photo ID.
Grades 9 to 12 (Years 10 to 13)
Official mark sheets from previous Board or institutional examinations, subject selection forms, and transcript reviews.
Academic review for high school (Grades 9 to 12)
Subject choices, examination history, and Board alignment.
High School entry involves a structured academic review to ensure students meet prerequisite standards for their chosen Board (such as NIOS, Cambridge International, or Pearson Edexcel).
Grade 9 & 11 enrolment
Academic advisors review prior subject performance, language proficiency, and target career pathways to assist with course selection.
Direct enrolment into Grade 10 or Grade 12
Direct admission into Grade 10 or Grade 12 is not normally offered due to formal Board registration schedules and continuous assessment requirements. Exceptions require an extensive academic review and approval from the Head of Admissions.
Not sure which grade your child should join? We’ll check records and advise.
Homeschooled learners and accelerated placement
Individualized evaluation for non-traditional academic backgrounds.
21K School welcomes children from homeschooled backgrounds or non-traditional learning pathways, as well as learners seeking accelerated placement.
Homeschooled learners
We evaluate portfolio work, reading lists, self-study projects, or independent assessment scores to determine appropriate grade placement.
Accelerated placement (Grade skipping)
Requests for acceleration are evaluated individually through comprehensive skill assessments, psychological readiness reviews, and conversations with our academic leadership.
Questions parents ask about entry criteria
My child’s birthday is after 1 July — which grade do they enter?
The standard reference date for age placement is 1 July. However, if your child reaches the required age cutoff by 30 September, our admissions team can evaluate your child’s social and academic readiness for the higher grade level.
Is there a formal entrance test for admission?
21K School does not use high-stakes pass-or-fail entrance exams for general admission. For middle and high school grades, we conduct informal readiness evaluations or subject-placement reviews to ensure your child is placed in classes that match their learning level.
Can my child skip a grade or enroll in an accelerated level?
Grade acceleration is considered on an individual basis. Parents must submit prior academic records, work samples, and a formal request. Our academic panel reviews the child’s cognitive and social readiness before approving accelerated placement.
Can my child join Grade 10 or Grade 12 directly?
Direct admission into Grade 10 or Grade 12 is not normally offered. Board regulations for NIOS, Cambridge, and Pearson Edexcel usually require two continuous years of study (Grades 9–10 or Grades 11–12). Rare exceptions are evaluated case-by-case based on transfer credentials.
What documents are needed if my child was previously homeschooled?
Homeschooled applicants do not need a formal school transfer certificate. Instead, parents provide a summary of studied curricula, portfolio samples, reading logs, and results from any external diagnostic tests taken.
What start dates or cohorts are available during the year?
To suit different family schedules and global calendars, 21K School offers four entry cohorts each year. Classes start in April, June, September, and January, allowing you to choose the cohort that works best for your family.
