Technology serves learning

Technology at 21K School, Puducherry is used when it improves access, feedback, practice, creativity or connection. It will not replace teachers, books, handwriting, conversation, laboratories, making, movement, arts, sport or outdoor play. The goal is thoughtful use rather than continuous screen time.

Digital tools may support personalised practice, formative assessment, research, coding, presentations, collaboration, virtual resources and selected global programmes. Facilitators decide when technology adds value and when a physical, written, practical or face-to-face method is more appropriate.

An age-appropriate progression

Nursery, KG1 and KG2 learners will not require personal laptops and will not use the Computer Lab as part of their regular programme. Their learning remains rooted in people, objects, books, movement, nature, conversation and play. Any facilitator-led classroom technology will be brief, purposeful and guided.

Grades 1 and 2 may use the Computer Lab or a device at home when required. From Grade 3, learners will bring a prescribed laptop with a webcam and headphones. The school plans a limited day-loan facility through the library; final device specifications and acceptable-use requirements will be shared with enrolled families.

Platforms that make learning visible

Applicable online learning and assessment platforms can provide targeted practice, benchmark evidence and timely feedback. A parent dashboard is planned to show assessment evidence, learning progress and conceptual understanding, complementing formal reports and conversations with educators.

The library will combine physical reading and research with selected digital or virtual resources. The Computer Lab provides structured access to computing and digital creation, while the Learning Garage enables practical exploration of design, electronics, robotics, artificial intelligence and applied problem-solving.

Safe and responsible use

Cybersecurity controls, filtered access and age-appropriate digital citizenship are planned across the school’s technology environment. Learners will be taught to protect personal information, evaluate content, communicate respectfully, acknowledge sources and seek help when something online feels unsafe or inappropriate.

Responsible use is a shared commitment. Learners will be expected to follow device and network rules, care for equipment and use digital tools only for authorised learning. Families will receive relevant orientation and should support the same habits at home.

Technology and human connection

Online systems can connect learners with additional languages, wider educator expertise, counsellors, specialists and the broader 21K community. These connections extend what the campus can offer while the learner’s core relationships and everyday school experience remain face-to-face.
