Support is part of good teaching

Learning support at 21K School, Puducherry is planned as a whole-school system, not a separate service only for children with identified additional needs. Every learner may need reinforcement, a different explanation, more practice, greater challenge or emotional support at different points in their school journey.

Small sections — up to 24 learners, with a maximum of two sections per grade — are intended to help facilitators know learners well. Classroom evidence, educator observation, projects and assessments help identify strengths, misconceptions and unfinished foundations before they become larger barriers.

Reinforcement and remediation

When a learner needs additional help, the response may include a scaffolding, differentiated instructions, assessments, targeted practice, feedback, small-group work, one-to-one guidance or the use of personalised learning resources. Zero Period creates protected time within the school day for reinforcement, remediation, revision or focused support.

Support is expected to remain connected to classroom learning. Facilitators review whether an intervention is helping and adjust the next step using evidence rather than relying only on a fixed label or one assessment result.

Enrichment and deeper challenge

Learning support also includes responding to advanced readiness. Learners who demonstrate secure understanding may receive deeper tasks, extended projects, Mastery opportunities, additional concepts or wider programmes. The aim is meaningful intellectual challenge, not acceleration for its own sake or routine grade skipping.

Individual needs and specialist access

Identified learning, developmental, medical or accessibility needs will be considered individually. The campus is planned to be physically accessible and inclusive, while online access to counsellors and relevant specialists may extend the support available beyond the campus team.

The school may seek information from families and relevant professionals to understand what support is needed and whether it can be provided safely and appropriately. Admission and continuing support decisions will consider the learner’s needs, the learning environment, available expertise and the school’s capacity. No specific intervention can be promised before an individual review.

Working with families

Effective support depends on timely, respectful communication. Families may contribute developmental, medical or educational information, participate in review conversations and reinforce agreed strategies at home. The school will share observations and practical next steps while respecting privacy and the learner’s dignity.

Questions parents ask

How will the school know that my child needs support?

Facilitators use classroom work, observations, assessments and family conversations to identify patterns. Support can begin when evidence shows a need; it does not always require a formal diagnosis.

What support may be provided during the school day?

Depending on the need, support may include targeted practice, differentiated support, small-group or one-to-one guidance, personalised resources and Zero Period intervention.

How are advanced or gifted learners supported?

They may receive deeper challenges, enrichment, Mastery opportunities, extended projects, advanced concepts or wider learning experiences suited to their readiness.

Can the school support every additional need?

Needs are considered individually. The school will assess the learner’s requirements and its ability to provide appropriate, safe and sustainable support before confirming provision.

Are counsellors or specialists available?

Online access to counsellors and relevant specialists is planned. The form and frequency of involvement will depend on need, consent, professional recommendations and available capacity.
