My teaching journey from my days in Dilkhush Special School, St. Anne’s High School and now at 21K school has seen vast changes in teaching styles, patterns and learners' learning skills.
Breaking down content to smaller chunks helps not only the learners with special needs but also helps them recall. Teaching children should be more fun based than completing a set syllabus or content. My belief is that learning and how we practice it in daily life is more important than just learning content which is forgotten over a period of time. Story formats be it English, Mathematics, Science, or SST creates the already inquisitive minds to crave for more. This is what helps bridge the gap between the facilitator and the learner. I love carving out a story line before I step into any topics, this makes it a fun way for the learners to understand better. Sometimes I give into learners' requests for videos which are educational based or story based. So we create a healthy and happy ambience for learners.
With my teaching journey is my counselling skills which I apply when it comes to the feelings or moments of just not wanting to do anything today mindset of the learner. Why not they too have their moments? We just need to understand them and let them just unwind, maybe with a favourite song or music or just a story or talk time. The bubble of being in an education system that only sees numbers or grades should be burst open to bring out the young minds to think and make decisions..

Why I teach is just purely from within, I love to reach out to learners who have learning difficulties, as they struggle with academics and the strain they feel on their minds. The parents are caught in a web of being misguided and this leads to them putting pressure on their child, this is where I wholeheartedly love to step in as a guide, a mentor and a support system whom they can open up to and just emote what is going on in their mind. Parents need to be strong and once they have that acceptance that this journey will be a roller coaster ride, then the ups and downs are a smoother sailing for them. This is why I feel I love to teach as I have been in the shoes of the parents who need a patient ear for listening.
