I realised somewhere along the way that my connection with learners, along with my academic experience, had given me a superpower I never knew I had. I could take something I loved and find ways to make other people love it too.

I have had some of the best years of my career teaching English, watching learners find their voice, become more confident and discover that they are capable of more than they thought. I love the language, but I love what it can do even more. It can open conversations, build confidence, spark curiosity and give people a voice. Being able to share that with learners has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey.

Over the years, I have realised that there is nothing more fulfilling or more honourable than sharing what you know with someone else. If something I have learnt can make another person’s journey a little easier, help them see something differently or give them the confidence to have a go, then I feel I have done something worthwhile.

For me, teaching has never been just about a subject or a classroom. It is about sharing knowledge, learning from each other and leaving people with something they can carry with them long after the lesson is over.
