Why We Teach Online and Who It Suits

Accessibility, flexibility, and visible structured learning with an honest view of who online school is for?

Founded in 2020, 21K School teaches online because technology enables us to connect with the learners in ways that commute times, rigid timetables, and location can not for learning. With over 25,000 learners across 78 countries from 46 nationalities, and more than 137,200 hours of live online teaching delivered in 2025–26, our scale reflects a growing demand for a different approach to schooling.

Online is the setting. The purpose remains deeply human: help every learner build knowledge, confidence, independence and a path that feels genuinely their own. Every learner finds their path to success.

Access should not depend on a postcode

Recognised pathways and facilitators, wherever your family lives

A family may live far from a suitable school, move frequently or need continuity across cities and countries. Online schooling allows learners to access trained teachers, whom we call facilitators, recognised pathways and a diverse peer community without relocating or spending hours commuting.

Family Story

“When my child joined 21K School almost 4 years back, the concept of online schooling for primary kids was still quite new.

For us, it started more as a necessity because we had shifted abroad, and due to age criteria, she was not getting admission despite already completing 6 months in a regular school and being academically ahead of her age group.

With a lot of confusion, research, and guidance from experienced people, we finally chose 21K School — and honestly, there has been no looking back since then.

Today, while travelling across different countries, our child is confidently managing academics along with her hobbies and activities. She performs solo on stage, is doing exceptionally well in multiple areas, and people are often surprised to see how she balances everything without feeling stressed or left behind in studies. Her efforts have even been recognized by the council.

What we value most is that learning here does not feel forced or pressure-driven. She gets the space to learn at her own pace while growing in confidence, independence, and creativity.

At a practical level too, it saves commuting time, reduces daily travel fatigue, and gives more time for meaningful learning and family life.

For our family, 21K School has truly been a positive and enriching journey.”

One timetable cannot fit every life

Multiple timings let school stay steady while life moves

Athletes, performers, travellers, young creators and learners managing health needs may have serious commitments that do not fit a conventional day. Multiple class timings and online access allow school to remain stable while life moves.

Story of Mariam Shaikh

“Hi, I’m Mariam Shaikh, a dedicated karate champion and learner at 21K School in Goa, India. My journey in karate began when I was just five years old, and today, I am proud to have won multiple gold medals in Kata and Kumite at the Indo- Sri Lankan Open Karate Championship and the TKAG District Karate Championship 2024. However, my journey is about more than just winning medals; it's about discipline, perseverance, and personal growth.

21K School has been a pillar of support in my journey. My teacher, Ms. Divya, introduced me to the concept of "Habits of Mind", which helped me develop persistence, focus, and resilience. These lessons guided me through tough moments in both karate and academics, reminding me to never give up, no matter how difficult things get. The school’s flexible learning approach allowed me to catch up on lessons I missed due to training.

The availability of recorded sessions and study materials in PDF format ensured that I never fell behind. Additionally, the counseling sessions provided by 21K School helped me manage stress and maintain a positive mindset. I am deeply grateful to my parents, coach, teachers, and school for believing in me and providing the support I need to chase my dreams.

Flexibility does not mean learning whenever one feels like it. Learners follow live schedules, meet academic expectations and take responsibility for participation and progress.

Technology can make learning more visible

Evidence from classwork helps facilitators act sooner

Digital learning produces useful evidence through participation, assignments, assessment, practice and feedback. Facilitators use this information to identify strengths, misconceptions and gaps more quickly. With 49,680 pages of learner work marked during 2025–26, technology provides the insights needed for prompt, targeted support.

Technology does not automate the relationship between teacher and learner. It helps the facilitator respond with greater clarity and consistency.

The classroom can become more diverse

Classmates from many cities, cultures and countries

Learners at 21K meet peers from 78 countries and 46 nationalities. Discussion, group work, assemblies, events and learner leadership turn that diversity into connection. Online school should widen a learner’s world, not isolate them inside a room.

Learning can extend beyond the lesson

Libraries, labs, projects and the wider 21K Learning ecosystem

The online environment connects live teaching with digital libraries, personalised practice, virtual laboratories, projects, guest speakers and communities of interest.

The wider 21K ecosystem also gives learners access to languages, Mastery programmes, Capstones, events, trips, and physical Learning Garages available in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, and New Delhi.

What online schooling asks from a learner

Attendance, participation and growing independence for 21K learners

Online school works best when learners attend consistently, participate actively, communicate when they need help and build age-appropriate independence. Younger learners need a Learning Coach, a parent or another responsible adult who supports younger learners during live classes, while older learners gradually take greater ownership.

Families need a suitable device, reliable connectivity and a supportive home routine. The school provides structure and teaching, while the home provides the physical environment.

When online school may be the right fit

An honest view of who online school suits, and who it doesn't

It may suit a learner who needs flexibility, greater subject access, continuity across locations, relief from a difficult school environment or more room to pursue a significant interest.

It may not suit a family seeking passive recorded content, an adult-learning programme or a school experience requiring no participation or routine.

Questions parents ask about online school

Is online school the same as tuition?

No, online school is not the same as tuition. In 21K online schooling, learners follow a curriculum, attend live weekday classes, complete assessments, receive reports and participate in a school community. It is different from the tuition which offers supplementary learning from the mainstream schooling.

Will my child become isolated?

No, your child will not become isolated in the 21K learning. Our learners interact through live classes, peer work, assemblies, clubs, events and leadership opportunities. Additionally, learners can participate in physical events and meetups at our Learning Garages in major cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, and New Delhi.

Can online learning be rigorous?

Yes. 21K School offers pathways through recognised boards including NIOS (a recognised national board under the Ministry of Education, Government of India) as well as international boards like Cambridge Assessment International Education (Centre IA702) and Pearson Edexcel (Centre 94883).

Another credible way to be schooled

For the right learner, a school built around access and connection

Choosing online school is not stepping away from education. For the right learner, it is choosing a school designed around access, flexibility and purposeful human connection.
