Teachers Who Make Online Learning Feel Human

Meet the 21K School teachers, how they are qualified, and how they guide live classes.

A smiling teacher in a headset holding her laptop

Technology can connect a virtual classroom, but the teachers who will know your child create the environment where learning happens. They help your child feel seen, think deeply, and actively participate every day.

At 21K School, our teachers, whom we call facilitators, combine academic preparation with the clarity, energy, and empathy required for online instruction. Their role is to guide inquiry, observe understanding, foster interaction, and help your child act on constructive feedback.

In the 2025–26 academic year alone, our faculty delivered 137,200 hours of live online teaching and evaluated 49,680 pages of marked learner work.

Why we call our teachers facilitators

The word describes how teaching works: The learner thinks, not just listens

We call our teachers as facilitators and this reflects our underlying educational approach. We believe that learners should not remain passive listeners while an adult delivers a lecture. Facilitators design thoughtful questions, practical demonstrations, structured discussions, collaborative projects, and reflection activities through which learners construct genuine understanding.

This approach does not reduce academic authority or rigor. Deep subject knowledge and lesson preparation remain essential. Facilitation describes how that subject expertise is applied: to challenge the learner to think independently rather than memorize passively.

Our qualifications and selection standards

Every facilitator is a qualified subject graduate with teaching credentials

All our facilitators are at least graduates in the subject they teach, have prior teaching experience, and hold a formal teaching qualification, such as a B.Ed. or a recognized teaching diploma from Cambridge or IB. NCTE minimum criteria apply across all pathways, while the British pathway incorporates specific Cambridge requirements.

Some specialized subjects require a related advanced degree. Across our school, our facilitators hold an average of 6.7 years of teaching experience. Further, our recruitment extends beyond formal degrees. We evaluate each facilitator's communication clarity, adaptability, empathy, digital fluency, and ability to connect with young learners in an online environment.

Early years: One homeroom facilitator for young learners all year

Rhythm, warmth, and active participation for young minds

Young children need teachers who can create rhythm, warmth and active participation. The same homeroom facilitator works with the class across concepts throughout the year, using themes, stories, songs, movement, show-and-tell, simple home materials and hands-on activities.

Classes are capped at 10 learners for Nursery and 15 for KG1 and KG2. A Learning Coach, a parent or designated responsible adult at home, assists the child during live sessions and collaborates with the facilitator throughout the year.

Want to meet your child’s homeroom facilitator? Ask us.

Primary and middle school facilitators: Foundation and independence

Live guidance, structured inquiry, and dedicated class mentorship.

As subjects become more complex, learners benefit from teachers who can strengthen foundations while developing independence. Facilitators use live explanation, questioning, guided practice, projects and feedback. In Primary grades, a primary homeroom facilitator guides core subjects, while specialized subject teachers support Middle School grades.

Grades 1 to 8 offer class-size choices capped at 24 or 20 learners. Learners also have a class-mentor, structure and access to wider academic and learner-support systems appropriate to the stage.

High school facilitators: A dedicated subject expert for each subject

Specialist instruction aligned with board examinations

Grades 9 to 12 are organised around subject choices and Board pathways. Class Facilitators are subject-matter experts who teach scheduled subjects, prepare learners for assessment and help them interpret Board expectations.

Senior learners do not have the class-mentor model used in Grades 1 to 8. They have access to their subject facilitators, counsellors, academic leadership, Learner Support and dedicated non-academic support. Classes are capped at 24.

Mandatory training before any facilitator teaches

Induction covers online pedagogy, platform systems, and safeguarding

Every facilitator completes mandatory training before taking responsibility for learners. Induction prepares them for the learning platform, online pedagogy, safeguarding expectations, assessment, engagement and the school’s academic frameworks.

This training ensures consistency across our academic programs. Whatever the subject, you will experience a unified, professional educational standard across every classroom.

Have questions about who teaches your child? Ask us.

Professional development throughout the year

551 hours of annual faculty learning to sharpen teaching practice

Teacher development continues after induction. Facilitators strengthen areas such as phonetics, social-emotional understanding, child psychology, learning science, subject pedagogy, technology, assessment and feedback.

In the 2025–26 academic year, our faculty completed 551 hours of professional development. 21K School was the first school in Asia recognized as an International Habits of Mind Learning Community of Excellence (certification renewed at Milestone 3 as of 1 September 2026), and all facilitators receive formal training in these developmental frameworks.

Professional learning is supported through a dedicated Learning Excellence system. Teachers are expected to reflect, use evidence and continue improving, modelling the growth mindset the school wants learners to develop.

How facilitators keep every learner participating

Short explanations, interactive tools, and varied ways to respond

A successful online class is not a long lecture. Facilitators use questioning, short explanations, visual resources, polls, discussion, breakout collaboration, demonstrations, movement and applied tasks as appropriate to age and subject.

Participation can take different forms. A learner may speak, write, annotate, solve, present, demonstrate or work with peers. The facilitator watches for understanding rather than equating visibility with learning.

A 21K School learner in a live online class with her classmates

In a recent senior science seminar, learners engaged directly with a visiting nanotechnology researcher, asking questions about molecular structures that extended well beyond the textbook syllabus—an example of how our facilitators foster curious inquiry. Our learner Kavish, challenged a visiting nanotechnology expert.

How facilitators get to know your child

Attendance, class contributions, and submitted work reveal individual learning needs

Teachers build knowledge of learners through attendance, participation, submitted work, assessment evidence and conversation. They notice patterns: a concept that remains uncertain, a learner who has stopped participating or work that suggests readiness for greater challenge.

This knowledge supports more precise feedback and timely referral to academic or learner-support systems.

Want regular updates on your child? See how feedback works.

Feedback that changes what your child does next

School assessments guide learning, while official boards evaluate final exams

Facilitators design and review ongoing assessments within the school programme, give feedback and help learners act on it. At Board level, mock examinations and past-paper practice build readiness, while final external examinations are independently conducted and evaluated by the relevant Board.

Feedback is most valuable when it changes what the learner does next. Here is a quick glance at our academic achievements:

NIOS Board Success
100% pass rates in NIOS Grade 10 and Grade 12 Board examinations over the past two academic years (from 2024 onward).
International Board Participation
More than 350 learners have taken Cambridge IGCSE, AS, and A Level examinations through 21K School, achieving near-100% IGCSE pass rates since May 2022.

The team behind every facilitator

Academic leaders, counsellors, and support teams assist the teacher

A facilitator is not expected to solve every academic, technical, wellbeing or administrative issue alone. Academic leaders, counsellors, Learner Support, Learning Excellence and non-academic support teams provide specialist systems around the classroom.

Clear escalation allows the teacher to remain focused on learning while ensuring that concerns reach the people equipped to address them.

See the full support team behind your child’s facilitator.

What you can expect from 21K facilitators

Professional standards and shared responsibilities

  • What we commit to your family

    • Thoroughly prepared live lessons aligned with curriculum goals.
    • Respectful, age-appropriate, and encouraging interactions.
    • Clear, timely feedback on student assignments and progress.
    • Open communication regarding academic or pastoral concerns.
  • What we ask of families

    • Establishing a quiet, dedicated home learning space.
    • Ensuring regular punctuality and consistent attendance.
    • Maintaining appropriate device hardware and internet connectivity.
    • Partnering with our academic team through constructive dialogue.

Questions parents ask about our teachers

Are 21K teachers qualified?

Yes. All facilitators are subject graduates with formal teaching qualifications, such as a B.Ed. or recognized teaching diploma from Cambridge or IB, averaging 6.7 years of teaching experience. Statutory NCTE standards apply across pathways, with Cambridge requirements integrated for British pathways.

Why does 21K call teachers facilitators?

We use the term facilitator because our teaching methodology emphasizes active learning. While facilitators remain subject experts and classroom leaders, their role focuses on guiding student inquiry, problem-solving, and critical thinking rather than delivering passive lectures.

Will the same teacher stay throughout the year?

In Pre-Primary and Primary grades, the same homeroom facilitator leads core subjects throughout the academic year. In Middle and High School grades, subject specialists lead specific courses based on curriculum requirements.

How large are classes?

Nursery is capped at 10 learners, KG1 and KG2 at 15 learners, Grades 1 to 8 offer caps of 20 or 24 learners, and High School classes (Grades 9 to 12) are capped at 24 learners.

How are teachers trained for online learning?

Every facilitator completes mandatory induction training covering online pedagogy, Learning Portal systems, child safeguarding, engagement techniques, and assessment methods, followed by ongoing professional development throughout the school year.

Can parents speak with teachers?

Yes. Parents can schedule consultations during formal Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs), contact facilitators via the Learning Portal, or request check-ins through their child's Class Mentor or Academic Coordinator.

Who supports a child beyond the teacher?

Learners are supported by Class Mentors (Grades 1–8), Academic Coordinators, Student Support Services, Pastoral Counsellors, and technical helpdesk staff.

Do teachers prepare learners for Board exams?

Yes. High School subject specialists provide comprehensive syllabus coverage, regular assignments, mock examinations, and past-paper practice. Official final examinations are conducted independently by the relevant external examination board.
