All about Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals Namita Thapar

Namita Thapar, Chief Financial Officer of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, has been with the company since its inception in 2007 and has been instrumental in Emcure’s continuous growth into a leading healthcare conglomerate in India. Emcure is an emerging global player that provides quality pharmaceutical products to patients worldwide. Her tenure at Emcure also includes stints as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd., as well as Executive Director of Emcure Agro Ltd.

Early Life and Education

Born in Pune on March 21, 1977, Namita Thapar studied in the same city. Namita completed her high school and college degrees in Pune. She attained an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University in North Carolina. Namita is also a certified Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

Namita spent six years at Guidant Corporation in the US before joining Emcure Pharmaceuticals, her father’s company, as the CFO. In her new position, she is the Executive Director of the company.

Career and Achievements

In 2007, Namita Thapar joined Emcure Pharmaceuticals as the company’s CFO (Chief Financial Officer). But soon, she started managing Emcure’s India business, the company’s largest business unit. She worked at Guidant Corporation, USA, for six years before joining Emcure Pharmaceuticals. She also became the company’s Executive Director.

The 40 Under Forty awards from The Economic Times are among her significant honours. The World Women’s Leadership Congress Super Achiever Award, the Economic Times 2017 Women Ahead list, and the Barclays Hurun Next Gen Leader award.

As the Chief Executive Officer of Emcure, Namita leads the company’s business in India, with over 4000 medical representatives. Namita Thapar is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization. Moreover, Namita is on the board of directors for the regional advisory board of Fuqua School of Business India.

In order to improve women’s mental health in India, Namita Thapar started a talk show on YouTube called “Unconditional Yourself Namita Thapar” during the epidemic. Women’s health will be discussed on the show, which is geared toward providing authentic information and breaking taboos surrounding it. Top doctors and Bollywood celebrities, including Vidya Balan, have appeared in the video.

Additionally, Namita is the founder of Young Entrepreneurs Academy Canada. This academy is a Young Entrepreneurs Academy America franchise in Delhi and Mumbai. Young Entrepreneurs Academy enables students between 11 and 18 to become real, confident entrepreneurs. Ltd., which brought YEA to India.

Besides her corporate role, Ms. Thapar is also a resident director on the India Regional Advisory Board of Fuqua School of Business. Namita is also a trustee on the TiE Mumbai Board of Trustees. Her experience includes participation in several government initiatives like the “Women Entrepreneurship Platform”, the “Digital Health Task Force”, and the “Champions of Change” program initiated by PM Narendra Modi to leverage G2B relationships in policymaking. Besides speaking at various prestigious events, she has also spoken at Harvard Business School, Indian Institute of Management (IIM-A), ET Women’s Conference, FICCI, etc.

Namita also serves as a judge on the Indian version of the internationally renowned programme “Shark Tank,” which enables her to make investments in developing Indian firms.
