To start with, what is K-12 education?
K–12 education is a representation that denotes the years of a student’s education before college encompassing primary, secondary & higher secondary school. The term is often used as a shorthand to collectively refer to it. Among other countries, the K-12 model is an accepted system in Indian education and it is adopted for both private and government schools.
Now let’s look at the issues with this:
This method of learning already had voids that needed to be filled but it just worsened over time with the outbreak of the pandemic. When educators were scheming for the 2019-2020 school year, no one could have deduced this enormous upheaval. While we did try to adapt to the outbreak of COVID-19 , we still have so many issues that need resolving.
Most students are stuck in a specific class based on their age irrespective of their aptitudes, this can stymie the progress of the child as some children might need more time to understand certain concepts while others are more advanced. With this system in place, it makes it arduous for students who are either differently-abled or students with a higher IQ, as there is no flexibility in the system of education.
Another issue is the obsolete and stringent curriculum, times have changed and everything needs to be expanded and progressed with these changes accordingly. In this era, more focus should be given to digital education to equip the students for future requirements. There isn’t a job that wouldn’t require technology and the usage of it should be taught properly, but the present curriculum doesn’t give sufficient focus and significance to subjects like these.
The material is also very expensive and simultaneously more insufficient in terms of knowledge, there is loss of cost through transportation, buildings, supplies, as well as a wastage of time. A textbook might not have enough to grasp the attention of the students and keep them hooked with what’s being taught, it’s all very ancestral and needs to be rethought. With a view to solving all these problems, we introduce to you, 21K School.
