Shantanu established Motopaws in January 2009 to prevent stray dogs from dying on the road at night due to poor vision. Ratan Tata, the chairman of the TATA group, provided funding for this endeavor. Additionally, Motopaws created anti-poaching devices for tigers in India that used sensor circuits, and it facilitated their adoption through the forest department in four distinct national reserves.

In 2020, On Your Sparks was established as a sister project of Motopaws.
