In 2002, he completed his fellowship and pursued cornea and refractive surgery research at Duke University. Balamurali received several significant awards from both Indian and foreign organisations. Later, he became a student at the Medical College of Georgia.
He managed to pursue his studies while working as an active ophthalmologist. He volunteered his time to Orbis International, a charity that offered healthcare to underprivileged countries. The medical services provision, the distribution of information, and the development of techniques and policies to improve medical health worldwide, it was Ambati’s way of giving back to society. He presently serves as the director of corneal research at the University of Utah School of Medicine.
