Karen Reuben Dass

My teaching journey began in the early years, where I developed a strong understanding of how young children learn through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences. Over the years, I moved into curriculum design, contributing to the development of core curricula, including numeracy, and creating teaching-learning materials to make concepts meaningful and engaging. For the past five years at 21K School, I have worked as an HRT in the Pre- Primary Years, contributing to curriculum planning, differentiated learning, inquiry-based experiences, and engaging classroom activities. I have also trained facilitators in Jolly Phonics, story narration, differentiated activities, and public speaking. These experiences have shaped my approach to designing purposeful learning experiences that encourage curiosity, independence, and active participation while responding to the diverse needs of every learner.

My teaching journey began with little learners as young as 2.5 years old, and they taught me one of the most important lessons about teaching: every child has a unique way of learning. Coming from diverse backgrounds, each learner brought a different story, curiosity, and way of seeing the world. I found myself enjoying the conversations, the little questions, the unexpected ideas, and the process of truly getting to know each child. For me, teaching has always started with listening and observing, understanding the learner first, and then designing experiences around their needs, interests, and strengths. That belief continues to shape the way I teach, plan, and create learning experiences today.
